Field Technician

 Job Summary

You are an experienced Business Installation and Repair Technician. You enjoy working in the
field and with different telecommunication systems throughout your day. You are committed to
safety, quality and a best in class approach to customer service.

 

General Accountabilities

* Test, install, troubleshoot and repair telecommunication services
* Interact with customers in a professional manner and deliver exceptional service
* Drive to and from customer locations within a 2 hour territory
* Operate testing equipment to identify and mark location of underground fiber cable
* Utilize a laptop computer and various software applications
* Other related duties as required

 

Job Qualifications

* Minimum 2 years’ experience working in the Telecommunications industry
* Experience installing/repairing DSL, business voice, PRI, T1, and/or Ethernet
* Self-Motivated, ability to prioritize and organize workload with little direction
* A positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach
* Strong desire to learn new technologies
* Experience working with, locating and marking underground fibre optic cable an asset
* Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Must be computer savvy, able to handle multiple computer applications
* Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver’s license
* Must have and maintain a clean driver’s abstract
* Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug & alcohol
requirements

Work Environment

* Travel will be required, including occasional overnight stays and out-of-town assignments/training
* On-call availability including some mandatory overtime, weekend and holiday work when
necessary
* Work environments include different types of terrain in and around
construction zones and commercial business, and industrial areas
* Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing,
bending, in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)
